Speaking of which, it looks like deleting an offline cache leaves the waypoints in the DB. Reimport the cache and they magically reappear. Or are they on the web and just not visible? Seems like they should not survive deleting the parent cache from the DB.

Right now I do that in several steps. First I create a GPX file of all my DNF's in iCaching and export that. Then I import that file into FileMaker Pro and run a script to mark those caches with a found date more recent than my DNF date and export a file of those. Then I import that file to a group/list in Geosphere/Cachly. Pretty tedious, but it works and lets me highlight those I'd like to revisit. 

If it were very easy to put a watch on a cache that you DNF from the app, wouldn't that be good enough?

Geosphere does have directional filtering for offline lists. Can't say I have ever used it. 

I'm guessing he wants to preserve Saved Locations when moving to a new device. Cache notes have size limitations. I would rather see a way to export one or all Saved Locations as a GPX opening up a variety of ways to save them externally. 

While thinking about changing devices, what about a bulk export that would allow moving the entire DB to a new device? With lots of offline lists, this gets tedious otherwise.

So does that mean there is a search filter on the API for archived? Is there a link to see the API description or is that a secret you get when they issue you a key?

Lots of new filters are being added in the next release. Defining a set of filters for an offline list can be a little tedious if you want several filters. If you want the same filters on another offline list, you have to do it again. How about letting me configure a set of filters and save that set as a named Filter Set. Then provide an Add Filter Set in addition to Add Filter. Adding the set would be the same as multiple Add Filters. A Filter Set would hold any value settings existing when it was saved.

In Live mode, with Exclude Archived off and within a hundred feet of an archived cache, it is not found. If I enter the GC code it is shown as archived. Either something is broken or, as I suspect the search API will not return archived caches. I wish it would though. 

When it takes you to the official app, look in the upper right and click on geocaching.com. This will take you to Safari and flip the default to use Safari in the future.

I don't mind the UI refresh but removing the ability to email a user and leaving only Message Center is going to be a problem. The plan for those who like email is that you initiate the conversation via message center and then switch to email since the initial message also goes to email. 

This sucks if you use any 3rd party apps like Cachly which provide direct email support by linking to the Send Email page. They will break and have no access to the Private Message API so you will be forced to geocaching.com's app for communication. 

Not sure how I feel about this. I do tap around the map before choosing to navigate and this could be distracting. In Geosphere, I turn on the show waypoints filter but this also clutters the main map as you don't know which cache they belong to. That filter is useful once I have drilled down to cache details though. 

If I have a particular view of a cache and switch to Offline and do something else, the live view is as I left it when I return. However, if I do something like click a URL or run a Challenge Checker that opens a Web View all I can do is click Done to get back to the Live or Offline view. I cannot switch to Live or Offline and return to the Web View as I left it.

Geosphere lets you treat Web View as a separate state (albeit hard to find under Bookmarks). I frequently flip back and forth from Live or Offline to something like a challenge checker to move info from web view to a cache note or consult a web tool when solving a puzzle. I see that I can sort of do this with Cachly using View in Geocaching.com but each trip back and forth spawns a new tab. Or I could app switch at the iOS level. 

Not a critical feature but something I've grown used to. 

GC74YX8 is an Intercache, like a Wherigo but using browser geolocation services. From the description of this cache, click Test Phone. Scroll down on the resulting page and click Test Decice. The current coordinates show as all zero while in Geosphere zinc standalone Safari, true coordinates are shown. If I kick out of Cachly with "View on Geocaching.com" it also works ok. I suspect the WebView thinks it has no permission to use location services. 

Also they say they tweaked some things regarding adding favorites with a draft and picture with a draft. Are these available to Cachly?

How successful will Cachly be working with unpublished caches? Clearly doing actions like Found would be problematic. Ideally Cachly would let you do everything except upload any status changes to the cache, .e.g. everything would remain local to your device. Then when the caches publish, you could synch with the site.

When I used Geosphere groups, challenge caches typically belong to one of two groups "Signed" which means I have signed it but not qualified and "Need to Sign"  which indicates I should try to go by and sign it sometime. I typically would add "Qualified" or qualifying support info to the cache note if I know I am qualified. An entry on the Signed list can be logged as a Found once the qualification can be demonstrated.

I think two offline lists in Cachly with the same names would give me the same capability. 

What would have given me more power with groups/lists was not offered by Geosphere.  Selecting multiple groups simply ORed the caches with those groups into one view. Sometimes this what I wanted but quite often ANDing would be very useful. For example, if I gave the "Need to Sign" caches membership in other groups conveying general area information: South Bay, North Bay, Coastal, etc. then if I had a caching trip planned to an area, I could select two groups: Need to Sign AND the area. This would let me see Challenge caches I could find and sign but limited to the area I was going to be in. Boolean logic is a powerful tool. I sure would like something like this. 

I am used to seeing the distance to caches in an offline list update as I drive or hike including list reordering if I am sorted by distance. Very handy in the case of twisty trails as the nearest cache may be 500 feet down a cliff but as I do the switchbacks  other caches become closest and become of interest n

I was talking to a new Cachly user who complained about no maps offline. I showed her how to download them. She had not figured out that offline list save did not also handle maps. Could you track regions for each cache being put in an offline map and ask the user if they would like to load the associated offline maps too? This would be friendlier and avoid having to guess which regions you need for a particular offline list.

Yes, I could help matters with settings changes but these apply to all apps and I may not want that. Geocaching is unlike many apps in being used almost exclusively outdoors so changes to improve readability specifically in the app are more important. 

25 loads faster than 50 over a slow connection and often the nearest 20 will keep me busy for a while. No point loading caches I may never get to. It's easy to ask for the next 25 if I'm not happy. It's about startup delays too if auto load nearby caches is on. Also once the option to do a full load on Live caches is present the delay in loading 50 will increase b

It would if I remembered to set that before firing off the log. Call it hasty trigger finger or something but I frequently run into this. Another fix would be to scan the log text for favorite and fave and prompt "did you mean to favorite this one?" If it has not been done. Thus is akin to Gmail asking about attachments if you mention the word but have none. The downside of this is it is not language independent n

i don't know if the API supports this, but I often say in the found log that I will award a favorite point and then forget to do it. It would be nice, if from the log entry, Add Favorite was an action. If not in the API, maybe it could be synthesized by submitting a Write Note log if that supports adding a favorite. Currently, I must go to the web site to fix my omission.
