Do you know why iCaching doesn't place that into a Personal Cache Note instead? Adding it to the description doesn't seem like the best idea...or is this a Cachly issue?

Long before Cachly I got used to 'my note' showing up in the description on my GPSr.  I don't know where else on the Garmin it would go.  Since it's a searchable field in iCaching I find it invaluable.

  2. I like to use iCaching to create gpx files for uploading into Cachly.  Anything in the 'my note' section of iCaching shows up in the description on Cachly (and also on my GPSr).  However, when I update that offline list in Cachly my notes are overwritten in the process.  Will v 2.1 merge the description instead of overwriting it?

You need 2 options that are separate to handle those 4 scenarios. At least I think you can do all 4 - I really just use #1 myself.

Depending on circumstances I have used all four.  That covers every situation for me.

Regarding a toggle between 'Save as Log' and 'Save as Field Note', isn't that exactly what it does now?  (When combined with the 'Send Now' option.)

I'll make s separate feature request one of these days for standalone user defined waypoints but not now. Low priority for me.

I have a number of "saved locations" not tied to any specific caches.  They show up on my "more" screen.  Handy for parking coords or trailheads that support a number of caches.

  5. As long as the 'Add Coordinate to Log' option is on the log screen, then it makes sense to default to the current coords.  That being said, I'm not convinced that the iPhone necessarily has accurate enough coords* to influence future cachers with another set of coords, especially in the woods.   The only time I've added coords to a log is when I've taken a series of averaged coords with a real GPSr.

*Every time I go caching now and can't find the cache right off, I begin to wonder if the posted coords were taken using a phone. Just yesterday I talked with a newbie cacher who's first cache was 1,000 feet from GZ.  Yikes!

Can't say I know a single cacher that uses the messenger.

I use it to send answers to virtuals and earthcaches, but that's about it.  When it first debuted some friends never know I sent them a message.

I think the API has always worked this way. There is an option when we request caches to return caches that are archived or not. So I think it is intentional.

That's interesting.  In the old days one could search the website for archived caches, but not any longer.   I wonder why gc.com removed that ability.

God knows how reviewers handle proximity for them.

The reviewers handle letterbox-hybrids the same as mystery caches.  They know where the final is, and if one tries to hide a cache within 528 feet the reviewer will send back a note saying your location is too close to another cache, but they won't tell you where it is.

As stated, downloading offline maps is the way to go. Then you never have to worry about pre-loading tiles, you can just save your caches offline and go!

I have the California map downloaded, but it's considerably slower than the online maps so I only plan to use it when I don't have a data connection.  It might be due to the size of California and/or my old phone (5s 16GB).

Nope.  Just to be clear, I'm talking about a waypoint created in iCaching and exported to a gpx file, then uploaded to Cachly.   I can resend the gpx file if you want to look at it again.  As I said in September, the file correctly shows the user created waypoint when plotted on Google Earth and on my GPSr.

Okay.  Forget what I said.  I recreated the file and tried it again and the waypoint is there.  Sorry for my confusion.

It shows up under the cache waypoint tab and I was expecting it under the user tab.  At first I didn't recognize it since it has no name, and I don't see an option to name the waypoint (like I can do when creating a waypoint within Cachly).  Any suggestions?

I just tested this and iCaching waypoints do get imported correctly. They show up under Cache waypoints. Are you seeing this?

Yes it will. However I don't see a notation in the iCaching GPX files as to if a Waypoint is a user added waypoint, or a cache waypoint. Do you have insight on this?

Darn.  Still no user created waypoints imported to Cachly from an iCaching gpx file.   :(

You could always use iOS text shortcuts for the same thing… though of course they'd be active for all apps.

I use that feature on the phone when using voice to text.   When I say "cache" it writes "cash," so when I'm finished with the dictation I go back and add a "p" to cash (because the "p" is the closest to my thumb) and my predefined shortcut correctly writes "cache."

Ah ok, I didn't see you mention before that this was an archived cache. Currently Cachly doesn't hide these types of caches. I will add a new search option to hide these in 2.0. Thanks for helping with this!

I don't think a new search option is needed to hide one errant archived event since no other archived caches, of any type, show up.  It's got to be an anomaly with this particular cache.
