gladstone8
I very much enjoy and appreciate Cachly as the replacement for the GC.com app - without it I would have packed in caching. I also contribute to Geograph which is a project in the UK where I take photos of OS grid squares as I walk. Thing is that if I'm using a PQ every time I take a photo Cachly stops working and goes to Live search and I have to reboot the PQ again. Is there something I can do to stop this happening please? Team DEMP
What are the specific steps you are taking? I can have Cachly and the camera app both launched on my iPhone and switch back and forth by double clicking the home button on the front of my iPhone and selecting the other app. Cachly remains on the screen it was when I go back to it. gladstone8
Thanks for getting back to me on this. I'm running an iPhone 4S. And that's exactly what I do - double click to get to the camera and take the photo then double click to get back to Cachly. The Cachly screen appears as before but the distance countdown is frozen and after a few seconds it sort of reboots itself and goes into Live mode. I also run an Ordnance Survey map app at the same time and there are no problems with this interfering with Cachly - or vice versa.
Team DEMP
It could be that the 4s doesn't have enough memory to keep Cachly active in the background when you are swapping apps. If you haven't, close all apps you don't need by double clicking the home button and swiping up (closing) apps you don't need. There is a future request for Cachly to re-launch in the same state as it was last running. I turned off Cachly from doing an initial search when it is launched which might save a little time for you if the app needs to reload and you had that option (More at the bottom of the main screen / Settings / Automatic Search on Start) enabled and showing green. Turn that option off show it doesn't show green.
gladstone8
Thanks for that advice - I must confess I tend to only run those three at the same time if I'm out caching...so that may be the problem. I'll see what effect switching off the initial search has. Many thanks.
rragan
Unless you explicitly kill off other apps, they tend to stack up over time. The ones to be concerned about are those running in background mode as they do take resources.
gladstone8
Thank you - I am very diligent about only running the three apps because when you're out caching for the day it soon saps the battery and the battery pack if you don't. I've switched off the initial search and will give it a go on Monday at a new loop of caches that I'll be looking for.

The 4S is the oldest device that Cachly supports, so I would suspect that iOS is killing Cachly when you use another app because of memory. Do you have plans to upgrade? gladstone8
Thanks for getting in touch Nic - that will probably be the reason then! Finances currently preclude update - but since I enjoy using Cachly it's something I can live with !! Dave
barefootguru
You may find it's better after rebooting the phone, as that can clear out memory.
gladstone8
Thanks for all the advice - I've been out caching and photographing today and it isn't any better - I'll accept it's the iphone version...no worries!
